UG Training
Round 1 training has been completed at both ends of the Basin with good attendance from team members.  We covered all things BG4, Care Vent, Self-contained self-rescuers and Mines Rescue guideline related.  As team members arrived at the station, one team member fulfilled the role of Sub-Station Coordinator and made sure all other team members completed the T-Cards and were assigned roles for the day.  This was a good refresher in the Sub-Station duty card and also for what you need to expect when arriving on the mine site during active deployment.

The learning management system (LMS) has been a success for delivering the course content and everyone is getting better adapting to the new technology.  Round 2 will be the first real test to see how it functions at the mine site.  I look forward to feedback from you guys on how the system performs at the mine.

At the time of reading, Round 2 will have been completed in the Southern region and Round 2 will be beginning for the Northern region.  During Round 2, the modules covered have and will include fire-fighting and explosions.  For the Northern region, this will be the first of 2 site visits with the first being conducted at Grosvenor Mine.  Grosvenor requires all team members to have completed the Anglo Online induction prior to arriving at site so please make sure you take the time to complete this process and bring your card to the mine.  For those in the Southern region, training for Round 3 will begin 7th May and is being conducted at Blackwater Station.

Competition Preparation
Teams are starting to prepare for the first competition of the year with training dates already starting to book out.  The QMRS Cup will be a great opportunity for some new and old faces to practice their mines rescue skills under some competition pressure and for those lucky enough to shine, we will be seeing you at the EK Healy as well.  Good luck to all the teams.

Recruit Courses
We’ve completed 2 recruit courses so far this year and welcomed 13 new team members to the fold.  Places are quickly filling for the next course scheduled to run from May 14th to June 1st at Dysart station.  The new and improved maze is up and running in Dysart and the latest batch of recruits can atest it has some new and exciting adaptations that are sure to stretch the teams and challenge the resolve of our experienced and newest team members as we head into 2018.

Lastly but definitely not least, I’d like to take this opportunity to officially welcome aboard our new Training Officer Leith Luckel.  Leith brings with him a wealth of experience in both mining and mines rescue and will be a great addition to QMRS.  Leith started in January and has hit the ground running having already facilitated Round 1 at Dysart and delivered his first recruit course already.
