July 2018 Newsletter now available here…
| Summary This quarter saw the completion of the industry employment survey by QMRS as part of it’s budget preparation and levy setting activities. It is clear from the numbers provided that the industry, particularly over quarter 1 of 2018, has entered a phase of increasing activity for existing underground mines and both new & existing surface operations. Add to this the introduction of compulsory mines rescue training for people seeking underground statutory qualifications and the level of activity required by QMRS currently and for the immediate future is certainly increasing. After 4 years of utilising available funds and focused efforts on cost control to constrain the quantum of the levy with increasing levels of activity, the associated costs of developing and providing ASQA accredited training competencies and increasing supplier cost pressures it has been necessary for the first time in 6 years to increase the mines rescue levy. Whilst still 10% below the level of 4 years ago this has been a necessary outcome of the activities provided by QMRS. A major change for QMRS during this quarter has been a change in our external RTO services with Performance Training coming on board as our partner provider. At the beginning of quarter 3 we now have Certificate III qualifications in Mine ERR (to sustain our existing and potential surface clients), Underground Coal Mine ERR (for our black suit trainees) and Coal Mine Inertisation (for the Jet crew) on the scope of our new RTO provider. This has been an exciting step towards achieving what has been the vision of QMRS for some 4 to 5 years now. In another training development, Mr Paul McCarthy, our Education Manager over the last 5 years will be commencing the next phase of his life in July by enjoying a greater amount of time with wife and in travelling and exploring the wilds of Australia, something he greatly enjoys. I’d like to thank Paul for his effort and contribution in moving QMRS into the accredited training space over this time and wish Vicky and himself great joy in the future. There has been an extensive amount of activity across all QMRS over this last 3 months so please enjoy the detailed articles to follow |
