Equipment Operations Manager – Brent Stewart

The equipment department would like to say welcome to a New Year to all our underground and MIU team members for 2018.
We have two new technicians who have started with QMRS since our last newsletter. Shane Brown has accepted the role in our southern area while Brett Machielsen has taken on the northern area. You will see both the technicians throughout the whole zone and at the competitions. Please make them both feel welcome to our organisation.

QMRS is currently investigating new technology to replace our current underground deployment communications system. There are two companies who have shown an interest to assist us. We will be looking closely at both of them to see their suitability for the environment we work in and how the product can be adapted to our procedures.

The CAREvent product used as part of our minimum equipment has the opportunity to be improved with the potential of making the body of the unit a little sturdier around the thread section. This will reduce the likelihood of damage occurring to the unit and ensuring there are more serviceable units available for training and operational use.

We have now also acquired four new forklift man baskets for our sites at Dysart, MIU, Blackwater and Boonal stations after the hazard was identified at a number of sites. Training is being conducted at Dysart to ensure personnel are aware of the use of the baskets and their responsibilities while operating within them. If any heights work is required while you are at any of our locations, please talk to your relevant site contact to make sure of any additional requirements.
