Education Department News
Current work in the Education Department is focussed on upgrading current QMRS training programs to RTO and Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) standards to ensure that they are fully accredited and the relevant qualifications issued to students that successfully complete the courses.

Underground Coal Mine MEMS Course
In response to a request from our coal industry clients, work is being done to upgrade the underground coal mine MEMS course to make it compliant with RIIERR501D Implement underground coal mine emergency preparedness and response systems.  The project will be completed in several steps.

  • Adjusting the course reference book to ensure that the performance criteria in the competency unit are covered.
  • Changing the current assessment format to reflect the competency unit evidence requirements, at a diploma level.
  • Upgrading the credentials of the QMRS training staff who deliver the course to include RIIERR501D.
  • Ensuring that our RTO has the required information to put the competency unit on scope and register the course for delivery.

Surface Coal Mine MEMS Course
Several Queensland surface coal mines have expressed an interest in QMRS delivering a competency-compliant surface coal mines MEMS course. The new course will be contextualised to surface coal mining requirements, and will be underpinned by RIIERR503D Implement emergency preparedness and response systems. The project will be completed in several steps, as follows.

  • Reviewing and rewriting the current MEMS course reference book to comply with the surface coal mining emergency management environment.
  • Writing diploma-level assessments to the RIIERR503D unit performance criteria, performance evidence and knowledge evidence requirements.
  • Developing PowerPoint presentations, session plans and other training materials.
  • Upgrading the credentials of the QMRS training staff who will deliver the course to include RIIERR503D.
  • Ensuring that the RTO has the required information to put the competency unit on scope and register the course for delivery.

10242NAT MIU Recruit Training Program

Work will commence shortly on registering the 10242NAT Certificate III MIU training program at Performance Training RTO. This will involve a comprehensive review of the course content and assessments by the RTO to ensure compliance with the 12 units within the course that will be delivered by QMRS.

ASQA regulations require that all QMRS training staff that deliver the MIU course have all units within the training program in their credentials. The RTO will develop an RPL kit to provide our training staff with required credentials to ensure that the training process is fully compliant and accredited. Performance Training RTO will also develop a training and assessment strategy plan (TASP) based on the MIU training program assessments and session plans to put the competency units on their scope.

Underground Coal Mines Emergency Response and Rescue and Surface ERT Courses

Performance Training RTO has added all competency units that underpin the underground mines rescue recruit and surface ERT training programs to their scope. The first group of RII30715 Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue qualifications has been issued by the RTO.

We look forward to having all QMRS courses put on the RTO scope, and are working toward this objective in 2018.
