Mines Rescue training takes on the best in technology (published May 2005)

Monday 9th May was the first team training at Dysart Station where we introduced the latest on Personal Training Monitoring. A computer based team monitoring system has been installed in the hot and humid room at Dysart Station.

The system, designed by the CSIRO for QMRS, utilises sensors developed by NASA. The monitoring equipment assesses hydration, BMI, weight to height ratio, pulse rate and work rate, and allows trainers to assess team members during training.

The system produces reports and graphical representations allowing team members to know their pre and post training conditions. The technology will ensure safe training practices and help individuals know their personal training signature and work to a positive outcome in conditioning and training.

Another technological advance for QMRS is the installation of Ventgraph software on the QMRS IT system. Simulating mine fires is now a matter of course. Ventsim and SeaGas Pro are included in the line up of aids for the mines rescue operational managers. Advancing in this current tecnological climate is a must for the challenges facing emergency agencies.
